In Year 6 at Manor House School, in addition to French, the girls study Spanish and Latin alongside National Curriculum subjects. Foreign languages may be delivered in our new language laboratory, offering Prep girls the same superb opportunities as Senior girls. In the Summer term, a French residential trip culminates the girls’ time in the Prep School, whilst giving them the opportunity to practise their French speaking skills in a local market and participate in typically French activities and experiences.
Spelling, Guided Reading and Mathematics are taught in small ability groups set across the year ensuring that each girl’s learning is both supported and demanding, as required.
The Science and Computing focus is in line with the new curriculum, and Computing lessons are delivered in the Senior ICT suite. Humanities teaching includes World War II, Rivers and Mountains, and the girls take part in a geographical field trip in the Autumn term, as well as a visit to a museum in the Spring.
Specialist teachers deliver Music and Drama lessons, and all girls enjoy and value an experience of singing at the O2, as well as taking the leading roles in our major Prep School Production in the summer term. The girls are also taught PE by specialist teachers and have the opportunity to participate in numerous match fixtures across the year.
School Council Representatives for Year 6 help to lead Prep School meetings and take ideas and recommendations of the younger girls to the Senior School meetings.
House Leaders in the Prep School assist in assemblies with House rewards and work alongside the Senior School House Captains to develop House events and activities and to further the House identity.
