girls in PE kit

Physical Education

Sport is a fundamental part of Manor House School life with all girls encouraged to participate in teams and individual events. Specialist teaching takes place throughout the school, with girls developing individual and team skills, self-confidence and a positive attitude towards physical activity and fitness, encouraging and fostering a healthy, active lifestyle. Physical Education is offered at GCSE level.

Our senior PE curriculum covers a wider variety of sporting experiences throughout the school sports journey including the traditional team games of netball, hockey and rounders. Pupils also experience other units of games such as football, handball, volleyball and basketball.   Movement is also expressed through gymnastic and dance themes, whilst fitness swimming and athletics are also measured and timed. Our orienteering course tests the skills of students in outdoor education.

Facilities include our own pool, tennis and netball courts plus hockey and rounders pitches and a grass athletics track. We also have a hall for indoor fitness training and dance. There are training sessions each day during lunchtime as well as timetabled lessons of up to two hours per week.

Senior extra-curricular activities include team our Tennis Academy, netball, hockey, rounders, tennis, athletics gymnastics, cross country and swimming matches versus other schools.  There are mix and match netball, football and hockey sessions open to all plus some activity specific sports clubs.

We play competitive matches in sports against a wide variety of local schools and compete successfully in district and county championships.  We also organise inter-house competitions in cross country, netball, hockey and rounders in addition to school sports days and swimming galas.
