Food Technology

Food Technology

At Key Stage 3, girls are taught Food and Nutrition and Textiles in our custom-built Food Block. The Key Stage 3 scheme of work has been developed to teach students:

  • Food provenance
  • How to cook a range of dishes safely and hygienically
  • Skills in food preparation and cooking methods
  • Healthy eating
  • The factors that affect food choice, food availability and food waste
  • Consumer issues
  • Food and its’ functions
  • New technologies
  • Trends in food.

Practical lessons take place regularly and a weekly Cookery Club supports this.

At GCSE level, both Food Preparation & Nutrition and Child Development are offered. The practical element and high level of controlled assessment (50%) make these popular choices

Our aim is to do the very best to ensure that every pupil has an enjoyable and fulfilling time in this subject by instilling a love of cooking whilst  learning vital life skills.
