Skilled Senior Bakers Win the Surrey Schools Baking Competition!

Posted: 6th March 2020

Two senior winners, Isabella Klein and Amelia Stott

The Surrey Schools Baking Competition is an annual event which has been run for the last five years and this year, we were invited to take part in the Competition which was held at Claremont Fan School in Esher, in early March.

Pupils in Years 7 and 8 of the Senior School did a ‘Bake off’ style session in class to select the best two entrants from Years 7 and 8. Students had to bake a large cake from scratch, then decorate it with handmade decorations, all within two hours. The theme was 'Spring Carnival'.

On the day of the Competition, there were nine different schools taking part, with a Junior category of Year 6 students and a Senior category of Year 7 and 8 students. So, there were eighteen different cakes to be judged on appearance, taste, texture, quality of the bake, use of handmade decorations and the theme.

We are delighted to report that Manor House School won both 'Winner' and 'Runner Up' prizes in the Senior category. Both our student winners, Amelia S and Isabella C, are from Year 7. They produced some amazing creations for such young bakers!

The competition was judged by the Mayor of Elmbridge (pictured here), along with the owners of a fantastic cake shop and decorating business in Claygate called 'Afternoon Crumbs' http://afternooncrumbs.com/
