The Year 10 Band from Manor House School were delighted to accept an invitation to perform at Prior’s Field Battle of the Bands 2024 on Sunday 4 February.
Every year, schools from across Surrey gather to compete in front of esteemed judges for the chance to be scouted to perform at Guilfest.
This year, competing schools included: Broadwater, Charterhouse, Frensham Heights, George Abbot, Guildford County, Highfield and Brookham, Manor House School, Music Works, Prior's Field, Rodborough, Salesian, St Peter's and Weydon.
The bands treated the audience to a collection of impressive performances of a wide range of musical genres and artists, including ABBA, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Alicia Keys, Journey, Muse and many more. Judges provided each of the schools with invaluable feedback regarding instrumental skills, stage presence and communication between band members, and were thoroughly impressed by all school entries. The Year 10 Band from Manor House School performed two songs, ‘Falling’ by Alicia Keys and ‘This Love’ by Maroon 5.
Thank you to Darren Lucas for working with the band this year on their set and for coaching them on each of their instrumental and vocal disciplines, and to Trevor Pratt for organising the event at Prior’s Field. The girls were supported by a crowd of parents, friends and teachers, and performed with grace and were noted for their beautiful vocal harmonies.
The prize for outstanding individual was awarded to the drummer from Highfield and Brookham, the runner up prize to St Peter’s and Weydon for their original song, and the first prize to Guildford County for an electrifying cover of ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme’ by ABBA.
