Duke of Edinburgh

Duke of Edinburgh

Manor House Girls in Years 9, 10 and 11 may participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.  The Schme is youth awards programme founded in the United Kingdom in 1956 by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, that has since expanded to 144 nations.

Girls in Year 9 are invited to start their Bronze Award and from Year 10 they may start the Silver Award. The four sections; Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition, must be completed over varying lengths of time.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) has long been a favourite with teenagers and young adults, aged 14 to 24, to increase confidence, develop outdoor skills and give individuals an edge in the race for university places. The award is proving to be more important than ever because the key attributes employers look for in recruiting new employees (leadership, teamwork, self-motivation, communication, confidence, consideration and the ability to learn) – are all gained from doing the DofE Expedition section alone.

The benefits of the DoFE  include giving teenagers lots of new experiences, discovering talents they never thought they had, challenging themselves and meeting other people just like themselves. Plus, it’s great fun!
