Supporting Macmillan Cancer

Charity and Local Community

Charitable Work

It is important to us here at Manor House School that we engage with our local community. We have a wonderful location and superb facilities and we try to share these with other groups where it is possible to do so. The local WI, Bookham Belles, meets here regularly on a Monday evening and we have more recently welcomed Bookham Choral Society.

Manor House School girls support a variety of charities. There are three School Houses; Discovery, Victory and Endeavour. Each Manor House girl will be assigned a House on joining the School and will support nominated charities throughout the academic year. We donate the entrance money from our annual Christmas Fayre to The Grange Residential Care Home in Bookham, a local charity for disabled people and in 2018 will support the Leatherhead Night Hostel and The Meeting Room as additional charities.

Each September we host a fund-raising breakfast for Surrey Macmillan Cancer Care, which is open to girls, their friends  and families, parents and staff.  This is always an enjoyable and well-supported occasion and we have raised c. £13,000 in recent years for Surrey Macmillan –  we raised £1930.34 in September 2018.  In addition, Manor House School is one of the few schools nationally that continues to support the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild through the giving of much needed new items every November.

The charities that we have recently supported (in no particular order) include:

  • The Grange Residential Care Home
  • LeatherHEAD START
  • The Canterbury Trust
  • The Children’s Trust
  • All Saints Church
  • The Meeting Room
  • Leatherhead Night Hostel
  • Make a Wish
  • Royal Marsden Cancer Charity
  • Surrey Macmillan Cancer Care
  • The Poppy Appeal
  • Jigsaw.
