It is important to us here at Manor House School that we engage with our local community. We have a wonderful location and superb facilities and we try to share these with other groups where it is possible to do so. The local WI, Bookham Belles, meets here regularly on a Monday evening and we have more recently welcomed Bookham Choral Society.
Manor House School girls support a variety of charities. There are three School Houses; Discovery, Victory and Endeavour. Each Manor House girl will be assigned a House on joining the School and will support nominated charities throughout the academic year. We donate the entrance money from our annual Christmas Fayre to The Grange Residential Care Home in Bookham, a local charity for disabled people and at our Christmas 2018 event we also supported the Leatherhead Night Hostel and The Meeting Room as additional charities. We also offer a range of charitable projects to girls throughout the year, such as a ‘Design a Multi-lingual Christmas Card’ hosted by our Modern Foreign Languages Department, with proceeds going to Macmillan Cancer Care.
Each September, we host a fund-raising breakfast for Surrey Macmillan Cancer Care, which is open to girls, their friends and families, parents and staff. This is always an enjoyable and well-supported occasion and we have raised c. £13,000 in recent years for Surrey Macmillan – we raised £1930.34 in September 2018. In addition, Manor House School is one of the few schools nationally that continues to support the Queen Mother’s Clothing Guild through the giving of much needed new items every November.
Following a very ‘red’ Manor House School Red Nose Day in March 2019, we would like to thank everyone for their fund raising efforts in reaching a total of £875.00! An excellent achievement.
The charities that we have recently supported (in no particular order) include:
