At the start of Year 1 at Manor House School, we aim to make the transition from Reception Class as seamless as possible, by including learning through play and gradually introducing more formal academic learning.
The curriculum in Year 1 is based on the National Curriculum (Key Stage 1) but is further enriched with the addition of French, Food Technology and Dance.
The topics we cover include Castles, ‘how we used to live’ and a study of St Lucia.
Most subjects are taught by the class teacher, with English and Mathematics lessons taking place in the morning. The girls continue to be taught by specialist teachers for French, Music, PE and Dance with our Forest School sessions integrated as part of the curriculum. Girls learn to play the piano as part of their music studies.
Year 1 girls learn in an environment that is fun, interactive and creative. Links within the Pre-Prep Department are strong with good communication between all the year groups, so that girls are fully prepared for the increased demands of life in Year 2.
