In Year 6 at Manor House School, in addition to French, the girls study Spanish, German and Latin alongside National Curriculum subjects. Foreign languages are delivered in our new language laboratory, offering Junior girls the same superb opportunities as Senior pupils.
Spelling, Guided Reading and Mathematics are taught in small ability groups set across the year ensuring that each girl’s learning is both supported and demanding, as required.
Science focus is in line with the new curriculum. Lessons are regularly taught in our specialist Science laboratories, again gently and subtly preparing our girls for life in the Senior Department whilst enhancing their learning experiences.
Humanities teaching includes World War II and the Battle of Britain; UK rivers, mountains and coasts. Computing lessons are delivered in the Senior ICT suite.
Girls take national standardised tests at the end of the academic year and this enables us to plan, support or extend work as each girl develops her skills and understanding. The results demonstrate the excellent overall progress that our girls make whilst in our Junior School. In 2016, 50-91% of our Year 6 Junior School students achieved Level 5 or higher in their SATs testing. Many girls achieve Level 6, well above the expected national average of Level 4.
All girls enjoy and value an experience of singing at the O2, take the leading roles in our major Junior Production and make visits to places of interest that support the taught curriculum, including attending our fabulous residential visit to France. This culminates their time in the Junior School; they have the opportunity to practise their French speaking skills in a local market and participate in typically French activities and experiences. This is a lovely way to end the school year and their Junior School life.
