Year 10 dual linguists took part in the Business Language Challenge on Friday 17 March at King Edwards, Witley along with several other schools.  The girls enjoyed some inspiring lectures at the beginning of the day which focused on the number of European countries that have offices in the UK and why graduates with good language skills are needed for our economy to continue to prosper.

Pupils were split into groups and worked with other schools for the majority of the day. Their challenge was to market Stilton cheese in a European country. The teams had to come up with a marketing slogan for their product, a radio jingle, design a flyer and write a two minute speech in the target language – Spanish, German or French – as well as  a number of other related challenges. Manor House School’s core values were certainly at the fore that day!  Here is what the girls had to say:

“We thoroughly enjoyed the day using our languages in a business context.” #ALoveofLearning.

“We enjoyed speaking in French/Spanish/German in the pitch at the trade fair.” #AcademicExcellence.

“We had the chance to work with pupils from a variety of schools.” #UnforgettableExperiences.

“It was quite scary at times as we had to work with people we did not know and contribute ideas.” #IndividualChallenge.

“The food was great!” #HappyandHealthy.

“All of the above sums up the day for me!” #CreativeandCollaborative.

“We all took leadership roles at various times because we had to divide up the various aspects of the challenge to get ready to present at the trade show.” #FutureLeaders.
