Manor House School pupil Abi Byrne has been named an area runner-up in the Royal Mail Young Letter Writer Competition.

Abi was one of 120 area finalists competing in the annual nationwide contest which attracted nearly 100,000 entries.

This year’s theme was ‘What’s Your Dream Job?’ Entrants had to write a letter to an employer.

Abi won £40 in vouchers and also £40 for Manor House, an independent school for girls aged 2-16 in Bookham near Leatherhead, Surrey.

The Royal Mail Young Letter Writer competition has been running for 37 years. It is aimed at students aged under 14. Judges included TV presenter Helen Skelton (formerly of BBC’s Blue Peter).

Abi’s achievement in reaching the area finals coincides with success in another competition.

Last month she was part of the Manor House Year 9 team which won the local heat of Rotary’s Youth Speaks public speaking competition. The school now goes through to the district semi final in Oxted on February 27.

Earlier in February, Manor House School held a highly successful open morning. It will be holding two more open mornings on April 26 2016 and October 1 2016. Families are welcome.
