Message From The Head

Welcome to our website, which I hope will whet your appetite for a visit to Manor House. This is a happy, thriving community, offering education to girls from 2 years to 16. To watch our girls grow and to share their adventures along the way is a real privilege, which my staff and I very much enjoy. Our school has a relaxed, friendly feel, girls of all ages know each other and work together in a variety of ways.

A high level of pastoral care is the cornerstone of our success. Teachers get to know their girls very well and we involve parents both to share any concerns but also to celebrate the girls’ successes. It is our firm belief that when girls are confident and secure in their environment they will give of their best in the classroom. Our GCSE results are of a consistently high level, with 52% of all grades being A or A* in 2009. We monitor and track each girl’s progress as they move through the school and our “value added”, measured independently by the University of Durham, shows that our girls achieve between 1 and 2 ½ grades above those expected for students of similar ability. This is testament to the girls’ hard work and the dedication, commitment and expertise of our teachers.

In addition to our academic focus we also offer a wealth of clubs and activities to give our girls the opportunity to develop their skills and talents in other spheres. Music, sport, art, drama, cookery, debating, the magazine team, media club and babysitting club are all important elements of our provision. Our girls develop links with our local community, raising money for local, national and international charities. We also have links with a school in rural Indonesia.

I hope that what you see and read on this site will make you want to find out more and I look forward to welcoming you, and your daughter, to Manor House.
