J5

In Year 5 our main themes in history are children in Victorian times, how Greek philosophy and architecture has influenced our views of education and our environment and lastly we study our local area and how it has changed since Victorian times. We visit a Victorian manor house in Brighton and the National Archives. In Geography we study cleaning water within the water cycle and the village of Chembakolli in India. This topic incorporates a trip to Bough Beech Reservoir.

In English we explore novels and stories by significant children’s authors and experiment with narrative forms, also film narratives. Later in the year we look at the poetic style.

In Science our topics are varied. They include the Earth, Sun and Moon, Healthy Living, Changing Sounds, Life Cycles and Gases around us.
