Process of Entry

The School is pleased to welcome parents who wish to make an initial visit at any mutually convenient time. There is an Open Day each term when parents can register their daughter for admission.

Formally registering your daughter to join Manor House requires the completion of a Registration Form and its return to the school with the appropriate registration fee.

Entry requirements are different for each age group and are summarised below. If you have any queries, please call our Admissions Secretary on 01372 457077 who will be happy to help you.

Busy Bees Nursery (age 2 - 4)
Entry from 2 years is determined by confirming that your daughter is physically, emotionally and socially ready to be away from home in a happy learning environment and that she is ready to participate and progress in such an environment. In the term prior to their chosen point of entry girls will be invited to attend a pre-admission visit.

Preparatory Department (age 4 - 7)
Prospective pupils are invited to spend the day with the appropriate year group. The Form Teacher will assess them in reading, writing and mathematics. Consideration will be given to the girl's social awareness and emotional development.

Junior Department (age 7 - 11)
Prospective pupils are invited to spend the day with the appropriate year group during which they will be assessed in reading, writing and mathematics. Whilst entry is determined by these tests, emphasis is also placed on a girl's potential ability to benefit from the academic standards and broad-based curriculum at Manor House. A confidential report from the girl's present school will also be requested.

The Senior Department (age 11 - 16)
Girls are required to take tests in English, Mathematics and Verbal Reasoning. In addition a confidential report on achievement and progress is requested from your daughter's present school; all candidates are interviewed. Extra time may be allowed in Entrance Tests (a) where an up-to-date Educational Psychologist's Report supporting and requesting this is submitted with the application for entry, and (b) following an interview with parents to ascertain the suitability of the provision which the school can currently make for pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Entrance Tests for admission to Year 7 in September take place in January and offers of places are made by the end of January. Parents' decisions on acceptance (or otherwise) are required on, or as soon as possible following, the first Monday in March - a date agreed by local independent schools.

For further information concerning entry please contact the Admissions Secretary, Mrs. Jane Clifford on 01372 457077.
